A Bargain of Blood and Gold by Kristin Jacques

A paranormal medley of action, romance and wit.

Johnathan Newman is close to earning his position in the Society, a group with the shadowy mission of protecting mankind from “inhuman creatures of the dark”. Highest on the list of offenders are murderous vampires. Johnathan is disgusted by the bloodthirsty monsters and is happy to prove himself, even if his final assignment is in a small lumber town that leaves him feeling a bit unsettled. With no choice but to lean on a kind local, he resolves to save Cress Haven from a dark threat that manifests itself in the gory deaths of young women. It turns out that his benevolent companion, Vic, has as many secrets as Johnathan. The two men, natural enemies, will need to come to some sort of an accord and pool their talents in order to uncover a threat more menacing than alluring vampires.

A Bargain of Blood and Gold is a paranormal medley of action, romance and wit, all coming together to form a decadent and fun supernatural book. An ambitious student in the art of vampire slaying and a mannerly vampire are protagonists that prove to be both dynamic and affable. The supporting characters, particularly an inept makeshift coroner and a feisty daughter of the town pastor, are every bit as charming, adding to the liveliness and humor of the novel. Kristin Jacques has a gift for the macabre as she paints the shadowy town of Cress Haven and its curious inhabitants with clever brush strokes. Another high point in this timeless novel is the personal and emotional growth of Johnathan, particularly with Vic there to fan each fledgling feeling. Totally diverting and thoroughly enjoyable, A Bargain of Blood and Gold teases more mysteries than Roswell itself.
