A fleet-footed thriller that will leave you craving more.
Crime investigations in the Big Apple will have to wait because Detective Griffin Knight is taking his skills and intuition across the country in order to help a mysterious hacker solve a murder. The hacker, Kalyx, once assisted Detective Knight in an investigation and now she asks him to return the favor and figure out who is behind the death of her fiance, Dylan. COO and CFO of megacorporation Colossus, Dylan was found dead with a toxic poison present in his system. An all around nice guy and a dedicated employee, it’s hard to imagine who might have wanted Dylan dead. However, he had recently uncovered a scheme that had bilked millions of dollars from Colossus’ payroll, and getting too close to the truth cost him his life. Detective Knight will not only have to work with folks on the other side of the law, but he’ll inevitably come in contact with the worst that Seattle has to offer if he hopes to solve this heinous crime.
If you’re not yet a fan of the Griffin Knight series, A Colossal Injustice is the ideal introduction to his fast-paced world of engaging detective stories. You don’t have to be a NYC cop in order to relate to Griffin’s solid sense of justice and strong moral character. Knight may only have civilian status while out of his jurisdiction in Seattle, but that doesn’t mean he can easily disregard his deep-seated ethics and unquenchable thirst for truth. His constant struggle to balance virtue and vice provides an underlying tension that elevates the mystery beyond its basic components. Though the finer plot points spring from sophisticated software and top-tier computer hacking, this engaging mystery remains highly approachable, filled with the perfect amount of suspense, action and cunning. Through shifts in viewpoint and narration, the victim’s compelling story competes for the limelight with the detective’s frantic investigation as the story moves relentlessly forward on multiple different timelines. In a short space, Hernandez deftly crafts an engaging cast of characters and a story that is easy to follow and difficult to set aside. A novella in length but a saga in nuance, A Colossal Injustice by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is a fleet-footed thriller that will leave you craving more.
