Blood Sapphire’s Revenge by Bruce Farmer

A chilling page-turner teeming with sadistic characters.

Staff Sergeant Haddy Abrams, an elite warrior for the Israel Defense Force, is in peak physical condition, but the same can’t be said of her mental, emotional, or spiritual state. Proficient in the art of war, Haddy’s entire life has been a battle, one she’s not sure she wants to fight anymore. With the loss of her father and a violent personal violation haunting her memories, vengeance is her constant companion. Loath to acknowledge the role of fate or faith in her life, Haddy decides that putting an end to her insatiable lust for revenge, the endless ache of despair in her heart and the memories of a soul-scarring trauma is the only option that will bring relief. But destiny has other ideas. Her life may be spared for now, but a narcissistic oligarch with a score to settle won’t stop until Haddy pays. In another part of the world, New York Police Detective Wolf James is battling his own demons. With roots in Ukraine and a military background, Wolf finds that he can’t keep himself out of the hot seat, especially when countless lives are threatened by a deep-pocketed lunatic. Wolf and Haddy’s paths cross and the unlikely pair learn that their destiny is more entangled than they could ever imagine.

Blood Sapphire’s Revenge is a chilling page-turner teeming with sadistic characters, a well-crafted and twisted plot, and an understated romance. Bruce Farmer’s writing style is incredibly detailed and precise, yet doesn’t wade into garrulous waters. Every conversation and rumination is used to maximum effect, either setting a tense scene, building character depth, or expanding the painstakingly entangled plot. It seems that each thought, scene, and character in this splashy novel has been carefully crafted to elicit a visceral response, but none more than the ultra-egocentric oligarch known as X. What Hannibal Lecter did for the 1980s, X does for the 2020s. His trademark move, commissioning lampshades to be crafted from the skin of those he deems traitorous, is so debased and demented that the other nefarious characters, and there are a plenty, seem harmless in comparison! Unusually spiritual and unendingly disturbing, Blood Sapphire’s Revenge is a dynamic thriller brimming with personality.
