Breeda Looney Steps Forth by Oliver Sands

A wickedly funny entry in the chick-lit arena.

Breeda Looney’s life is at a standstill. She left her career behind to care for her dying mother. Two years have passed, but Breeda is finding it difficult to move on. While going through some of her mother’s things she discovers an old birthday card, seemingly from her long dead father. Confused, Breeda takes the matter to her only living relative, the indomitable Aunt Nora. Nora makes up an excuse, tosses the card into a fire, and firmly encourages her to leave the past in the past. But Breeda has never been one to do the expected. Her journey to find the truth drudges up old rivalries and painful memories.

Breeda is awkward but loveable. Her fear of failure and embarrassment followed up with her actual fails and embarrassments are comically realistic. American readers will appreciate Sands’ use of local terms and expressions such as cream-crackered, banjaxed, popped the boot, natter, scarper and daft. They lend the book a fun vibe and a decidedly British feel. Readers are sure to feel personally vindicated with a terrific assortment of zany characters and outrageous situations.

Breeda Looney Steps Forth is a wickedly funny entry in the chick-lit arena. Oliver Sands demonstrates keen insights into the lives of single women!
