This adorable book is reminiscent of the vintage Sesame Street Library books of yore.
Daisy Mae gets the news that her mom got a new job and they’ll have to move. Only this isn’t simply a move across town or to a new school. This is a trip across an entire ocean to a whole new country! Daisy Mae and her family move to the US from England and the chipper looking little girl faces a hefty dose of culture shock. The kids in school make fun of her for her unusual accent and the unfamiliar terms she uses for everyday things. Wisely, her dad suggests, “Be proud of who you are, and share your travels from afar. And though you’re from a different place, we’re all alike in any case.” And so she does. Daisy Mae decides to embrace her individuality as something special. Soon her classmates join her and they learn to enjoy the differences.
Daisy Moves to America by Elyssa Nicole Trust is a lovely rhyming book, perfect for families who find themselves in unfamiliar circumstances. I would also recommend this upbeat little story for kids who are getting to know new classmates from foreign lands. With vivid and cheerful illustrations, the story teaches valuable lessons in an approachable and appealing package. I felt like a little kid when I got to the pages where Daisy Mae was considering some of the words that are different for her in the States. It was like a game to figure out the British terms situated all around her. Biscuits for cookies always makes me smile! With such a wonderful, encouraging, and welcoming feel to it, this adorable book is reminiscent of the vintage Sesame Street Library book series of yore. If you have a little one in your life who loves to learn or who might need a little boost of confidence, Daisy Moves to America will be their new favorite book!
