Do Nothing by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.

Will leave you clamoring for the next book in the series.

Whenever New York City Detective Griffin Knight gets the call, you know nothing good has happened. And when Griffin is tapped to investigate the heinous murder of a renowned district attorney and fellow purveyor of justice, it quickly becomes personal for the veteran detective. He’ll need the help of his entire team and even the expertise of a retired investigator if he hopes to put the puzzle pieces together. Leads are tenuous at first, but eventually begin to add up, pointing to a string of cold cases in the area. Years have passed, but crime scene evidence reveals some disturbing similarities. A serial killer with a twisted sense of morality seems bent on bringing vigilante justice to the Big Apple. But why, after all this time? And what supposed crime did a D.A. commit to gain the killer’s attention? Knight will have to act fast because a maniac with a score to settle is on the loose in the city and his next target could be anyone.

Do Nothing is an absorbing installment in the Griffin Knight mystery series. Despite the brevity of the novel, Hernandez deftly crafts a balanced mystery that grabs readers from the first page and keeps the adrenaline pumping through the final moments. The plot revolves around the actions of a killer and a series of torture-laced murder scenes, but it retains a lightness and sense of humor that keeps the story agile and in constant motion. Detective Knight is an all-around good guy, well-liked by both his coworkers and readers alike. As in any clever thriller, the tension arises from a complex and mysterious villain, and this hooded murderer, aptly named The Judge, will have your skin crawling in no time. Not only does he have deeply rooted, twisted motives, but his crime-scene machinations keep the investigators constantly on the run. Seasoned readers might notice that the prose lacks a measure of finesse, but this has little impact on the fast-moving thriller that the author has created. But be forewarned, the story may conclude neatly, but Hernandez adds in a steep cliffhanger that will leave you clamoring for the next book in the series. Easy, breezy and a ton of fun, Do Nothing is a raucous read you’ll devour in one sitting.
