Epic Kids by David Blaze

When Jake is befriended by Amanda, the popular newcomer to his school, he begins to notice that there is something unusual about her. To begin with, her two closest friends act like they are her bodyguards. When one of them magically levitates a lunch tray, Jake concludes that there is definitely something unusual about them. And the fact that Amanda can shoot green lightning at attacking animals is certainly bizarre too. Nonetheless, it is hard for him to believe that Amanda is a princess from another planet and that Jake may play a pivotal role in fighting off animals and bad guys to keep her and the planet safe. Yet that might just be the truth of the matter.

For a beginner chapter book, Epic Kids does everything right. The idea of fantasy entering into the real world is exciting. The menacing magical animals (including a dinosaur!) and the evil “bad dude” are well conceived. And every reader is sure to root for Jake as an underdog right from the start of the book. To top it all off, there is a generous amount of humor and action throughout the story.

David Blaze writes in an exhilaratingly fun manner that both youths and adults will enjoy. Epic Kids is an Epic Story that you won’t want to miss!
