For the Intended: Journal Two by Haven Berg

Loyalty is a noble quality indeed! When paired with youthful recklessness, however, these two potent qualities serve to get Galayne into one difficult situation after another. After rushing through a portal to save her close friend from an uncertain fate, Galayne finds herself alone on an untidy planet, Earth. Left with no choice but to try and fit in while she carries out her search, she takes on a live-in babysitting gig with a generous and kind-hearted suburban family. By day, Galayne learns a few domestic skills and bonds with the kids, but every free moment is spent scouring the town for any trace of her friend, Tucker. The Johnson parents take a liking to Galayne right away and suspect nothing of her motives or origin, but the two young children are not so unobservant. Still, the portal is stable for only a limited time, and Galayne can’t let her growing affections for the Johnsons get in the way of her goal. While things don’t go according to plan, Galayne gains some valuable information while spending time on Earth. These lessons will be put to the test quickly, as trouble is looming back home.

With no time to catch your breath, For the Intended: Journal Two jumps headfirst into the adventure sparked in Journal One. Besides being a fun story, this action-packed installment invites the full gamut of feelings. The first section centers around Galayne, living as Cindy and trying to make a go of fitting in as an Earthling. There are comical scenes, such as when she’s experiencing indoor plumbing for the first time, emotionally gripping moments, like when she learns about the tragic death of Mrs. Johnson’s older sister, and shocking epiphanies surrounding Galayne’s hazy early days. After she returns to Edgeladine, the tone and intensity of the story change dramatically, reaching a deafening thunderclap. Monsters attack, new powers emerge, and danger becomes impossible to outrun. The unusual pace of the novel treats readers to what feels like two entirely unique stories, all bound together by Galayne’s destiny. If you enjoy the evolution of a strong protagonist who still has a lot to learn, you have to read more of Galayne’s saga in For the Intended: Journal Two.
