Gone by Nellie H. Steele

An endearing blend of supernatural suspense and refined charm.

Things in Celine Devereaux Buckley’s life have finally started to come together. Her family and friends are safe from her nemesis Duke Marcus Northcott and are living in peace. Everybody has accepted who Celine is and what she is capable of, and things have settled into a pleasant new normal. Except for the minor problem of Celine being trapped in a magical prison that no human on earth can reach. But Celine is more clever than her captor thinks she is. She must travel to dangerous places using unexpected opportunities if she hopes to return home. A missing heroine, however, is only the beginning of the action in this dramatic third book of the Shadow Slayers Stories. The cast encounters new time-travel troubles, including shifting timelines and shifting allies. The mysterious Shadow Realm is explored with its otherworldly conditions and shady characters. And a bizarre new place, Alterra, is introduced into the series, which will leave readers breathless.

There is no shortage of creative new supernatural elements in Gone. The characters all seem more comfortable with each other, allowing for meaningful relationship growth. This is best seen with Damien and Michael. Damien was likable from the start, but Michael was off putting in book one. In Gone, with their tentative friendship and growing loyalty, theirs becomes the relationship to root for. With multiple stunning story arcs and some intense superhuman action sequences, Gone: A Shadow Slayers Story is an endearing blend of supernatural suspense and refined charm.
