Sean ‘Recon’ Wallace earned his nickname for his impressive tracking and hunting skills. And so it is that Sean happens to observe a disturbing scene near his wilderness home in rural Georgia. Three men are seen breaking into a neighbor’s cabin with a female hostage in tow. Sean is compelled to jump into the knight in shining armor role and rescue the beautiful woman from being raped and worse. But this woman, Amanda, is only one part of a horrible crime being perpetrated nearby. More than two dozen orphaned girls have been kidnapped from abroad and are about to be sold off in Atlanta. Sean and Amanda don’t have much time if they hope to find the girls and avoid retribution from the crew that is responsible for the abductions.
Heavy Traffic on a Dirt Road is a fast-paced thriller with formulaic but fun characters. Sean is ex-military, so his actions and conversations tend to be cool and clinical. He never wastes an opportunity to talk strategy, even during an involved bedroom scene. On the other hand, Amanda is a vivacious, alluring woman with a surprising amount of fortitude and inner strength. They fall madly in love over the span of a couple of days, all while the criminals are circling closer. The plot is outstanding, including just enough corporate greed and intrigue to correct course on a pace that is sometimes uneven. Dramatic scenes adorn the pages and truly reach a climax in the final pages, making for a spirited novel that is a romantic whirlwind of a thriller.
