The creatures come to life and the vivid locations dance from the pages in this epic fantasy. Since the hard work of world building was accomplished in book one, Vengeance is able to flesh out more of the plot, including power-grabs, cover-ups, and character growth laden with introspection. Although the heavy themes of gender fluidity and sexuality come across as forced in places, the resounding feeling of love is what most readers will come away with.
