Puberty can be a trying time in adolescence. Young people have to deal with an onslaught of new sensations, raging hormones, mood-swings, and in the case of 15-year-old Jake London, liquid metal seeping from his pores. In this exciting science fiction adventure, Jake realizes his parents have been keeping some huge secrets. A group of nano-enhanced humans have been infighting for dominance. Jake soon comes to realizes that each faction views him as a game-changer in their battle. A normal life is now out of the question… Jake just hopes he can stay alive.
Fitzpatrick’s novel is reminiscent of a Terminator movie but with far more likeable characters. Imagine the shock of discovering that your parents can not only fabricate metal weapons without blinking but also are responsible for giving humans the ability in the first place. It was so fun to see Jake cope with this knowledge all while finding his way among fellow teenagers whose DNA has merged with nanotech machines. Sasha is an especially complex character. As the leader of the Hunters, Sasha is merciless to the point of adorning herself in self-punishing accessories. Creepy, sadistic… everything a great evil overlord needs!
Filled with action, witty dialogue and delightfully horrific gore, Mechcraft is a true page-turner. Buckle up and let your imagination go wild with this instant sci-fi classic!
