Moon Puppets by Baxter Bramatti

Flora Figglesworth is an adventurous young girl with one ambitious goal: Flora wants to broadcast shadow puppets on the moon for the entire world to enjoy! It’s a tall order, so she will need a little help and a lot of ingenuity. Moon Puppets uses a rhythmic method to convey a lovely story for young children. Vivid illustrations add a touch of whimsy to a well told story of a child reaching out to achieve a goal.

The story is simple and the main character, Flora, is one that children will relate to. I appreciated Flora’s generous spirit and her fierce determination in the face of obstacles. The meter of the story is uneven in places, which made it difficult for me to smoothly read it out loud. Young kids may or may not notice, so don’t let that stop you. Youths will really enjoy the modern and colorful pictures, which help the story come to life.

Moon Puppets is a wonderful addition to any library for young aspiring readers. It is a perfect balance of fantasy and real life lessons. With a character as charming as Flora Figglesworth, Moon Puppets will be a repeat read, night after night.
