Tellie has lived a lot of life in her 14 years. She was orphaned and subsequently adopted by relatives who value Tellie only for her free labor at their Inn. But nothing could prepare her for the night a menacing group of men with dubious motives wanders into the Inn. After they’ve eaten and retired to bed, Tellie finds more than just a mountain of dirty dishes; the men have dropped a priceless necklace. Fate steps in, she finds the necklace, and as she does so, her life is instantly transformed. Tellie learns that the elves, once thought to be only a legend, prove to be alive and require her help. Before the timeless king of the elves dies, he tasks Tellie with finding the next elf king. With little guidance, she courageously steps into the roll ordained for her by a power she cannot fathom. A journey of fear, bravery, darkness, and light ensues as young Tellie sets off to save the world.
Moonscript is a thoughtfully written fantasy novel with an endlessly imaginative collection of beings sewn together in an epic adventure. It is truly a battle of good versus evil, although in many cases the evil has to be excised from within. The character and world building grow at a deliberate pace, allowing readers to become fully immersed in the vivid imagery. The spiritual overtones are unexpected but welcome in this beautiful tale of redemption. Undoubtedly, in the fantasy genre, H.S.J. Williams is a force to be reckoned with!
