Reviving the Commander by Nadine C. Keels

Reviving the Commander is a charming romance novel penned by Nadine C. Keels. The story follows Opal Whilstead, a woman of ‘middle age’ and Staid Alexander, a recent widower and father of the king. Opal is quietly confident and wise. And although she is ‘bright and ever cheerful, inclined to extend charity,’ Opal has chosen a path of singleness, often at the expense of her own happiness. Staid, on the other hand, is aloof and reserved. His grief influences his personality and overshadows his life and family. The pair slowly forge a deep friendship. Will a long hidden scandal or public opinion keep their friendship from blossoming into more?

Nadine C. Keels has crafted and exquisite love story. Although geared toward a Christian audience, any reader that appreciates modestly paced character development and sweet romance free from coarse language and smut will enjoy this book. Opal is such a relatable character. Her sage advice fills the pages. “You’ll have to decide what’s more important to you at this point. Love or fear.” Dialogue like this will ring true for readers the world over. And the relationship Staid has with his children is tender and moving. Reviving the Commander has a soft poetic feel, and is a truly heartwarming love story. This book is a heart-gripping romance for the ages. Hands down the best romance novel of 2019 so far!
