Slightly outlandish but totally delicious.
Move over Sun, Carissa Hayward may be the new center of the solar system. At least, that’s what it feels like for anybody caught up in her orbit. For Brad, popular Carissa burns a hole in his heart when she dumps him just before senior year. Positive that he can convince her that he’s a changed man, Brad tries everything he can think of to prove himself. From a new workout routine to a career-oriented job, nothing gets through to her. At the same time, Carissa’s twin sister, Rose, has her own fire to put out. Her final year of high school begins with a surprise invitation to the hit TV show, Help Me Lose Weight and Live Again. Nothing says ‘blending in’ quite like having all your flaws and insecurities televised. But, just maybe Carissa was looking out for Rose when she sent in a nomination. And she is overweight, truth be told. Perhaps the time away will not only shed some pounds, but will help Rose finally squash the crush she’s been harboring for Brad, a secret she’s been carefully hiding for years.
Reading Thanks, Carissa, For Ruining My Life is like watching your favorite rom-com movie for the twentieth time. You know what’s going to happen from a mile away, you can recite the dialogue before it’s said, and you already know who to root for and against with the opening credits, but that doesn’t stop you from loving every minute of it! A perfect young adult romance, this slightly outlandish but totally delicious story is as contemporary as it is witty. The first thing you’ll love (and hate) is the cast. Rose puts up a tough front, but she’s a mess on the inside. Brad is hopelessly in love, even if his affections are wasted on the evil twin. And Carissa is the ideal villain—smart, sassy and successful, but ultimately more fragile than she looks. Add in a relatable and possibly terrifying setting, high school, and you have a high-spirited story that is sure to give you all the feels!
