The City Below the Cloud by T. S. Galindo

The dramatic twists… will keep you guessing right until the end.

Kalan lives in a bleak, economically depressed world. The constantly dark sky regularly produces acid rain for the inhabitants below. And a good day is one where you have a bowl of rice to eat and a mattress to sleep on at night. Due to the unique environment of this world, mushrooms grow heartily, and Kalan’s job is scrubbing them off of buildings. When she is confronted by a creepy follower and given a job that seems impossible, however, her entire world is turned upside down.

The world that Kalan lives in is incredibly well thought out. A large portion of the book is dedicated to providing details on every facet of the world below the clouds, and life in it. While there isn’t much dialogue or character development in the first half, the twists that hurl Kalan into the second half of the story are riveting, to say the least. With enshrouding darkness, nanotechnology and robot enforcers, this story provides everything a sci-fi lover craves.

T. S. Galindo is a dystopian visionary that writes with enough description to transfer the reader solidly into this fictional world. The dramatic twists in The City Below the Cloud will keep you guessing right until the end.
