An exciting mix of fantasy and suspense.
Revenge fuels Sigmund the infamous sorcerer. Putting into action an evil long-term plan, Sigmund kidnaps Rayne, the young Crown Prince of Corylus, and changes his name to Wren. A magical wire is fused to the boy’s spine and all his memories are lost. Wren, now rendered mute, is handed over as a slave to an unforgiving man who will train him to become a master assassin. In ten years’ time, Sigmund will have his revenge on the royal family when Wren is used to kill them.
The Sorcerer’s Bane starts off with several maps and a long list of characters. Don’t let this overwhelm… the story is approachable and riveting. The fictional universe isn’t so contrived as to need a Ph.D. in fantasy to enjoy the tale. Instead, C. S. Wachter wows with a well thought out cast who repeatedly shock and awe readers. Ponce, a disturbingly merciless man working with Sigmund, will make your skin crawl! Queen Rowena is powerful yet down to earth, a lovely mother. And of course there is Wren/Rayne. His tormented childhood is both heartbreaking and strengthening, charming even the most discerning reader.
Wachter whips up an exciting mix of fantasy and suspense in this thrilling novel. The Sorcerer’s Bane is a true page turner!
