Voice of War by Zack Argyle

Voice of War has all the makings of a modern literary classic.

Serving as high general is quite a responsibility for Chrys Valerian. Despite his greenness, Chrys throws himself into his assignment. The only thing more important to him is his wife and their soon-to-arrive baby. When the peace of the land, and specifically of his new son, is threatened by Bloodtheives, those that would feed off of the blood of threadweavers like a drug, Chrys is tasked with the most important assignment yet. He has to find and stop the Bloodtheives! While he works to root out the dangerous criminals, Chrys struggles with a darkness inside himself that is battling to be released. He comes across a brazen young lady and their fates prove to be intertwined. The girl, Laurel, has a wild spirit that threatens her place in a society she finds too restrictive. Elsewhere, at a rebel hideout, Alverax is alive, but not the same. He’s got new skills and a plan. These three lives and three lands come together in an explosive story that pits loyalty and duty against family, friendship, and love.

“Life itself is a flame. Fickle as any. Some burn brightly and die swiftly. Some burn dimly and live far past their need. In the end, all flames die.” Richly descriptive and unexpectedly sensible, Voice of War is one of the most finely crafted fantasy novels I’ve read. Featuring a wildly creative world with ethereal forests, magical powers and a whole host of characters each with unique motives, personalities and secrets, the story is completely immersive. The tale is brilliantly told, gripping from the start, but slowly adding in the fantastical layers like a delicate pastry. In fact, I’m confident that if Zack Argyle wrote a book about painting a wall and watching it dry, I’d enjoy reading it. But Voice of War is no painting manual. It is complex and intriguing and beautiful and fun. Voice of War has all the makings of a modern literary classic. If you’re looking for a new fantasy novel to fall in love with, look no further than Voice of War by Zack Argyle.
