Welcome Home to Murder by Cindy Kline

Welcome Home to Murder is a pleasing cozy mystery that takes place in Ireland. After a short stint in America tied to an unfaithful husband, Molly McGuire returns to her childhood home to get a fresh start. A good portion of the story centers around Molly catching up with her siblings and extended family as well as an old nemesis, Margery Denton. It isn’t just Molly that doesn’t get along with Margery; most of the town has a reason to dislike the belligerent woman. Things spiral out of control quickly when Margery is found dead at Dooley’s Charity Gala. The plot thickens as the local law enforcement officer was once married to the victim and the detective sent to investigate has a prior relationship with Molly. A lover of fictional mysteries herself, Molly soon finds herself in the thick of things struggling to find the real killer.

The author’s love of Ireland is evident in the endearing descriptions of the quaint Irish town and its people. Molly’s transition from America back to Ireland is amusing as she struggles to remaster driving on the other side of the road and keep up with the local lingo and gossip—craic, that is. And if you’re a foodie, a gourmet bakeshop figures prominently into the story with its tantalizing sweets. Molly has a terrific family surrounding her that helps paint a lovely picture of her transitioning life. With rich descriptions and well thought out characters, Cindy Kline has delivered a delightful cozy mystery with broad appeal.
