A brilliant addition to the teen paranormal genre.
An art student with a predilection for the supernatural, Jonathan Miller is nobody special. At least that’s how he has always felt. At just four years of age, Jon was kidnapped by some toady men and subsequently rescued by a mysterious woman with rainbow colored hair. Leaving Jon with only a peculiar trinket, his rescuer vanishes without a trace. Therapists encourage him to talk about the traumatic ordeal, but Jon chooses to cope by filling composition books with images of his savior/crush/obsession. More than a decade later, when Jon finally feels like his life is on track, the enigmatic woman shows up on his college campus. What she reveals will change his life and maybe the world.
Tanya Searle’s fiercely creative mind is evident as her words pour forth from the pages at a frenetic pace. Jon is a terrific unlikely hero filled with all the insecurities any young adult should have. His best friend, Miles, comes across as everybody’s pal; a little reckless, a lot carefree, and unexpectedly tender at just the right time. Pop culture references peppered throughout the novel make this urban fantasy come to life.
Finding Soul has a sturdy narrative and an engaging cast of plucky characters. The fantasy world blends seamlessly with reality, making for a brilliant addition to the teen paranormal genre.
