For The Love of Alison by Sahlan Diver

The story is smart and well thought out.

A typical London workday spirals out of control with a single telephone call. David Buckley receives an invitation from his old college crush, Alison. The evening begins with a strange walk down memory lane but turns into a murder scene. With only David and a lone a cop on the scene of the crime, David turns into the prime suspect in a politician’s death. His alibi may be true, but when Alison and all evidence of her existence mysteriously disappears, his situation becomes grim.

Where has Sahlan Diver been my whole life? The writing is ridiculously compelling. Short chapters each with critical plot points advance the story at a harrowing pace. David Buckley is the perfect scapegoat for a crime. He is witty and neurotic and completely charming. His candid nature regarding mistakes in his past makes David a relatable and likeable character, one to root for. The story is smart and well thought out with each clue or new bit of evidence more clever than the last.

For the Love of Alison features suspense and intrigue tangled with humor and self-deprecation. Sahlan Diver is a rising star in the mystery fiction genre.
