An absolute must read for any little animal lovers in your life.
Good Luck Chestnut And Other Lucky Colors of the World is a richly illustrated book for young children that is sure to stoke the fires in a playful heart. The pages feature horses and children in every color, size and season. With wonderfully silly words paired together like silver dapple, Adam’s apple, or palomino, jalapeno, maraschino, Gruenberg’s story is meant to be read aloud and enjoyed. Children will get a kick out of the lighthearted text, all while learning to be more observant and inclusive of the beautiful variety in the world around them.
While the rhythm and vocabulary are deliberate, the artwork is subtle, adding precious details in unexpected places. In fact, I found myself wanting to look back through the pages to pick up on the special nuances in the illustrations that I missed the first time. And there was a lot I didn’t catch until a second or third look! There is no doubt that kids will love spotting the differences between the distinct, majestic horses in varying settings and discovering all the other beautiful flora and fauna.
Linda Gruenberg is a rare talent indeed! The story itself is lively and endearing, but it is the authentic pictures created by the author that really breathe life into this delightful picture book. The glowing faces of the happy children featured with the horses tell a story unto themselves. Good Luck Chestnut is an absolute must read for any little animal lovers in your life.
