Iliad: The Reboot by Keith Tokash

You may think you know Homer’s The Iliad, but you don’t know it like this! In a ridiculously entertaining retelling, Keith Tokash presents The Reboot. In a comically insolent way, we revisit this epic story filled with mighty kingdoms, glorious kings and fierce battles. Except The Reboot delivers trifling leaders, cheeky soldiers and sharp dialogue instead. Gelios, as is his custom, finds himself in trouble. He finds himself embroiled in the war. And let me tell you, war has never been such a riot!

What a relief this book is! It is light and fun and filled with all kinds of irreverence. The main character and his cousin provide a nice balance as they play off of each other. The disgraceful way these ancient gods and other figures are depicted makes me want to pick my mythology books back up and reread them with a fresh viewpoint. And there is an enjoyable plot that buoys the story along. Although outrageous, this book feels more realistic than most glorified historic accounts.

If you enjoy mythology (and especially if you don’t) Keith Tokash is an author not to be overlooked. Iliad: The Reboot is satire at its finest.
