Easy to enjoy, and perfect for young readers.
When you’re the seventeenth baby born in a mouse family, it’s no wonder the excitement of finding a name to match the personality has faded. So our protagonist is simply named Another Mouse. However, curiosity propels our furry little house mouse, making him anything but just another mouse. Mouse wanders out of his sheltered home and discovers a world of mysteries, dangers, and beauty that he had only ever read about. He befriends a beautiful butterfly, a grateful duck, a lazy lizard and many more expressive characters. He enjoys a number of adventures, but what he really wants is to find his way back home. A strange journey through some unusual and imaginative settings proves to be little more than a wild goose chase as Mouse keeps looking for directions and assistance in all the wrong places.
The characters, including a curious mouse, an insightful louse and an apathetic cow, on the surface appeal to younger children. But like any cleverly written work for youngsters, this quirky, fast-moving story told in verse and prose has broader appeal for a more refined audience with the inclusion of some subtle satire. The decision to layer the colorful story with quaint poetry makes this unconventional book easy to enjoy, and perfect for young readers. Dixon’s writing style is visual and vibrant, drawing readers into the scene as Mouse leaves a trail of leftover wings from all the maple tree helicopter seeds he eats, or when butter-covered Mouse literally slips away from a cunning fox trying to bake him into a pie. Though the cover may seem disjointed, the lively story and its soothing, rhythmic pace will make you glad you got to know Another Mouse in Mouse Trax.
