One Night in Beartown by Nick Jones

Whimsy and delight abound in this colorful and warm tale.

Nestled in town of Congleton is the precocious Sandy Lane and her collection of bears. Some might call Sandy bear-obsessed, but she just can’t help herself. She loves her teddies! From books and wallpaper to an impressive collection of stuffed bears and the big bear statue just outside her home, Sandy finds great joy in all her bears and the other dozens of bears located around town.

Sandy is devastated when an obnoxious school bully grabs her most cherished teddy, Berisford, from her book bag. The teacher confiscates the plush companion, leaving Sandy without her constant companion for the night. What happens after Sandy falls asleep is nothing short of magical. A group of teddies surprise Sandy Lane with an un-bear-lievable night that she’ll never forget.

Whimsy and delight abound in this colorful and warm tale. Nick Jones weaves together elements from a child’s innate imagination and a bit of providence in this lovely story. Also praiseworthy are the illustrations by Si Clark. The pages are alight with rich textures and colors, complementing the dreamy story. One Night in Beartown is wonderful gift true for all the little teddy bear lovers out there! With a fanciful story and a nice bit of redemption at the end, Nick Jones has forged a truly enjoyable children’s book.
