A riveting new time-travel saga.
If you could travel to any point in history, where would you visit? 1989 to watch the Berlin wall fall? Maybe. 2004 to buy Google at $85 a share? Absolutely. 1865 in the throes of the American Civil War? Not so much. For Mark Lane, he chooses Virginia, 1865, to hide with his family from the company he betrayed. Mark planned everything in advance, including period clothing, currency and even a place to stay. All the Lane family has to do is blend in, avoid doing anything that might tip off his future coworkers to his whereabouts/whenabouts. Things fall apart quickly when Mark is accused of working for enemy forces. Between military threats and a time traveling assassin, the Lane family finds life in the 1800’s more challenging than any of them imagined.
I am always impressed with the attention to detail in John Heldt’s novels. The historically accurate elements are presented in a manner that is refreshing rather than heavy. This story has compelling themes of family loyalty and personal ethics. Mary, the matriarch of the Lane family, proves to be a strong and resilient character, an inspiration to women everywhere. The first in a riveting new time travel saga, The Lane Betrayal is a time travel story you won’t be able to put down!
