Winterset Hollow by Jonathan Edward Durham

A symphonic masterpiece of literature.

John Eamon Buckley didn’t grow up like most kids. His father was a little unstable and a lot reclusive, leaving Eamon a legacy of insecurities and social awkwardness to contend with. The young boy turned to books for as much comfort and normalcy as he could get. “Winterset Hollow was one of those timeless, inimitable books that was simple and pure and patently entertaining on the surface, but so much more underneath.” Now an adult, with adult responsibilities and relationships, Eamon has managed to find a small circle of reliable friends that understand where he’s come from. Together, these three take a trip to visit the abandoned home of the beloved author of Winterset Hollow, E.B. Addington, located on scenic Addington Isle. For Eamon, everything about this excursion seems like it is written in the stars. Quickly, however, a day trip descends into a freak show with some horrific twists, and Eamon and the other tourists aren’t going to enjoy the main event.

Childhood imaginations spring to life in the sinuous and suspenseful Winterset Hollow. A book within a book, Jonathan Edward Durham has managed to create an ostensibly innocent children’s fantasy and let it serve as the framework for a larger, more wonderfully bizarre and unexpected novel. A symphonic masterpiece of literature, the silky prose flows as effortlessly as music. But don’t be fooled! This five part symphony changes tempo and moods at a frightening pace. Eamon is a sensitive and thoughtful man, and everything he feels for Winterset Hollow changes in an instant as he truly learns of the beloved story’s dark origins. Filled with clever and astute observations on human nature and plenty of full-circle moments, this book isn’t like anything you’ve read before and is more than you could ever imagine. An exquisite blend of horror, suspense, and fantasy, Winterset Hollow is as wildly unique as it is unequivocally unforgettable!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jonathan Edward Durham was born near Philadelphia in one of many satellite rust-belt communities where he read voraciously throughout his youth. After attending William & Mary, where he received a degree in neuroscience, Jonathan waded into the professional world before deciding he was better suited for more artistic pursuits.

He now lives with his partner in California where he writes to bring a unique voice to the space between the timeless wonder of his favorite childhood stories and the pop sensibilities of his adolescent literary indulgences. His debut novel, “Winterset Hollow,” an elevated contemporary fantasy with a dark twist, is mined from that same vein and currently available everywhere.
