The Other Magic by Derrick Smythe

A well-planned story in a vivid fantasy world.

A slave boy, a priest and a wayward prince walk into a bar… Okay, these three don’t walk into a bar at the same time. But there is a prince who really enjoys imbibing. And there is a young slave boy who is so downtrodden he can barely yearn for anything more than servitude. To complete the scene, there are also magic practicing priests galore. A powerful king has ascended the throne with the plan to eradicate enemies of his god. When Kibure, the aforementioned lowly slave, displays forbidden magic, he becomes an enemy to the Empire.

As a wayward prince, Aynward adds a lot of humor to this epic tale. His antics get him in trouble more often than not. As events unfold at the university where he is studying, Aynward proves that he is more than just his family name. Another comical character, Jaween, is stuck in a magical amulet and has a fascination with the eating habits of humans. And of course, a war is brewing. Lives are at stake and joyous chaos ensues.

Derrick Smythe takes his time delivering a well-planned story in a vivid fantasy world. Diverse characters abound and magic dances with wit in The Other Magic.
